Joshua Barber was born in Richmond Virginia in 1977 and he is a painter of modern-day icons and landscapes. His work marries rough, tactile lines with delicate details. His titles are often darkly humorous and the goal, Barber says, is "to make light of the darkest corners." With regards to where he draws his inspiration, Barber explains, "We are all lonely. Each one of us is surrounded by a sphere of solitude that not even the closest intimacy can break. This loneliness feeds our fears, nightmares and our deepest regrets. But loneliness is not bad in itself - when we're alone, we pay attention. Small events take on deep significance and hold this answer we wish we could share with the world -- but we know deep down inside, it just wouldn't come out right." His work has been shown internationally and most recently, his paintings have been exhibited in the United Kingdom (London and Bristol), New York and Los Angeles. His work has also been exhibited at the prestigious Virginia Museum of Fine Art's Art After Hours for the last three consecutive years.

About the cover image titled, my bombs only hurt when you think about them, Barber writes: "As a kid growing up in America, I had a romantic vision of World War I and II airplanes - flying aces, dogfights and daring. In my early twenties, I moved to Bristol, England, where to this day, fighter planes passing overhead conjure memories of terror and destruction. Even now, some bombed-out buildings can be seen in the city."

my bombs only hurt when you think about them depicts a biplane flying over the famous Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol.

This painting was recently sold in the Dreweatts Urban Contemporary Auction in London, United Kingdom.
